Here are the questions and comments from the final part of the Exploring Communion series.
How often will we have Communion at G2?
Maybe once per month. We might also think about an annual celebration that includes Communion. Also, inspired by this series, people may want to break bread in their homes or cell meetings.
Who can receive?
Different churches and brands of Christianity have different rules on this. For G2 our invitation will be “if you would like more of Jesus in your life then do take part.”
Can children receive?
In general we are happy for children to receive if this is what parent want. Let us know if you want any advise on this or how to explain the meaning of Communion to your children.
Are we going to use liturgy?
Any form or format of worship is a liturgy, so we already are. The passover meal and the last supper would have had familiar words that were used. We may try this as we continue to explore Communion together.
What format will Communion take?
We want to continue to be creative and inventive, but also simple and focused on Jesus. We want to learn together, so we’ll be trying to do it different ways, but also making sure we all know what we’re doing. Please continue to give us feedback.
What do we say when we give the bread & wine?
We don’t need to say anything if we don’t want. Its usual to say “body of Christ broken for you” and “blood of Christ shed for you” or similar words.
